Filament

A flow-field painter. In the flow-field tradition.

#001 · morandi · medium · mixed-style
The name

What connects galaxies.

A filament is the largest structure in the universe. A thread of dark matter and gas running across hundreds of millions of light-years. The threads came first; matter condensed at the junctions. The collection is named for that.

Each piece is a junction. The seed is the gravity. The render is what condenses. Nothing here was drawn by hand — a few rules, a number to start from, and the structure falls out.

Procedurally generated, like everything else in the universe.

The edition

250 pairs. The ones I picked.

Mint an Edition piece free on OpenSea. Hold it, come back here, and the site unlocks the second half — a Twin you roll yourself, also free. Two halves of one frame.

Italian-named palettes, beaded chains traced through layered simplex flow fields. The selection is the work.

The pair

Two artworks. Two steps. Both free.

The Edition half is minted on OpenSea. The Twin half is claimed here, once you hold the first. Same pair number on both, and a name each — two Italian words chosen as counterparts, so the pair reads as one thought in two halves.

Edition 1 / 250
Brocca
One I picked out of a much larger pile. Free mint on OpenSea.
Twin 1 / 250
Fiato
One you roll on Filament Play once you hold the Edition half. The slot machine picks the seed; the algorithm renders it. Free to claim.

The Edition is the one I picked. The Twin is yours. Same pair number on both. Two junctions on one thread, linked on chain.

The choice

You pick the Edition. The Twin is what you roll.

Most generative editions are blind: press mint, the contract resolves, you see what you got. Filament works the other way. All 250 Edition pieces are finished and visible in the gallery before mint opens. You browse the palettes, the scales, the compositions, and pick the one you want. No surprises on the artist's half.

The rolling lives in your Twin, where it belongs. The slot machine picks the seed, the algorithm renders it, and you reroll as many times as you want until it's right. Curation where the artist's hand is. Participation where yours is.

And it costs nothing either way. Free on OpenSea, free to claim. You cover gas and that's the whole bill.

How it works

Mint one. Roll the other.

  1. Mint an Edition piece on OpenSea

Free. Pick one of the 250 in the gallery; you cover gas and nothing else.

  2. Come back here and connect your wallet

The site checks which Edition pieces you hold. Holding one unlocks its Twin roll — read-only, nothing to approve.

  3. Roll your Twin, then claim it

Filament Play rolls a seed in your Edition piece's palette. Roll as many times as you like. Lock the one you want and the Twin mints free to your wallet, same pair number as its half.

Filament Play is open.

Free, no wallet required. Roll the slot machine, watch a piece render, share the URL. Holding an Edition piece just adds a mode: the same machine rolls your Twin half.
